Possum Removal in Hornsby and
the Upper North Shore
Possum crashing across the ceiling at night? We work out where it gets in, let it out, and keep it out.
Our possum removal service covers Hornsby and the Upper North Shore, from Wahroonga, Turramurra and North Turramurra through Pymble, Gordon, Killara and Lindfield to Roseville. We don't trap or relocate. A one-way exit lets the possum leave by itself, then we seal the roof, all for one fixed price agreed up front.
We don't trap possums
In NSW, capturing or harming a possum without a licence is illegal. We use one-way exits and roof proofing only, so nobody catches or handles the possum.

Why does the Upper North Shore have so many possums in roofs?
The Upper North Shore is one of the leafiest parts of Sydney, and its suburbs back onto national park and deep bushland gullies. Possums live all through that canopy, and a roof cavity is often the closest dry shelter.
The region's nickname is "the Leafy North Shore", and Ku-ring-gai Council says a diversity of possums and gliders live in Ku-ring-gai, from the large common brushtail possum and common ringtail possum to the tiny feathertail glider.
Council also explains the real driver. Possums depend on tree hollows or dreys to sleep in during the day, and removing hollow-bearing trees is a key threat to them, because a natural hollow takes hundreds of years to form. When the old trees go from a block, a brushtail will look for the next best thing, and that's often your roof.
Most possums we remove from Upper North Shore roofs are brushtails. The NSW Government notes that brush-tailed possums like to live in roof cavities. Ringtails usually stay in trees, so a ringtail drey in your hedge can be left alone.
What makes Upper North Shore homes easy for possums to get into?
Big trees and big old houses. Many homes here have large gardens with established gums and street trees touching the roof, and older roofs with plenty of small gaps.
These are the spots we check first on Upper North Shore jobs:
- Federation and interwar homes (Wahroonga, Pymble, Killara, Lindfield, Roseville): terracotta tiles, slate or complex rooflines with many valleys, ridge gaps and timber eaves.
- Bushland-edge streets (North Turramurra, North Wahroonga, West Pymble, East Lindfield, Roseville Chase): trees and fences give easy access, and possums return quickly if one gap stays open.
- Hornsby, Normanhurst and Waitara: a mix of older brick homes and unit blocks. We look closely at roof vents, box gutters and gaps above gutters on the blocks.
What we find on possum jobs
The pattern on our possum jobs is consistent: the possum lives in the roof and gets in through the roof drainage. It climbs a downpipe or tree and squeezes in where the gutter meets the roof. On the Upper North Shore, gutters fill with leaves from big trees, sag, and leave exactly that gap. Some jobs start with a smell. That's usually a possum that died in the roof. We remove it, seal the way in, and mesh the gutters and downpipes.
Is removing a possum legal on the Upper North Shore?
Yes, if it isn't trapped or relocated without a licence. NSW guidance says relocated possums rarely survive, because bushland areas rarely have vacant territories. That includes Ku-ring-gai Chase and the reserves behind many Upper North Shore streets.
We use a one-way exit, so the possum leaves on its own and nobody handles it. For the full rules, see what NSW law says about possum removal.
How do we get a possum out of an Upper North Shore roof?
Big old roofs have a lot of places to check. Valleys, slate and leaf-choked gutters are where most Upper North Shore entries hide.

How much does possum removal cost on the Upper North Shore?
Prices start from $280 for a single-storey home and $320 for a two-storey home. Upper North Shore roofs vary a lot, from simple brick homes to slate Federation rooflines, so we quote after the inspection. The quote is fixed and there's no inspection fee when you book the job.
Here the price mostly depends on:
- roof material and complexity (slate and multi-valley Federation roofs take longer)
- single or double storey, and roof pitch
- the number of gaps to seal
- repairs needed first, such as broken tiles or rotten eaves
